APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

FOR INTERIOR USE ONLY

ATAC is designed exclusively for coating unfinished automotive interiors. Do not apply ATAC to the exterior of any vehicle, motorcycle, RV, SXS or on any surface that will be submerged under water. Do not apply on plastics or other surfaces that are not manufactured from steel or aluminum. Before applying ATAC, thoroughly prepare the surface by following our instructions below. Contact DEI if you have questions on where to apply ATAC or what surface to apply ATAC to.

SURFACE PREP

  • Surface should be clean and free from oil, grease, wax, and contaminants.
  • Rust should be removed or treated. Bare metal should be primed. We recommend a red oxide primer.
  • Painted surfaces should be scuffed before applying.
  • Do not apply in temperatures below 60°F. (Do not let freeze.)
  • The surface temperature should be no lower than 60°F.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  • #50208 - Can be brushed/rolled on or spray applied. Spray gun available through DEI, #50209. Stir before use. Do not over-stir or shake. Keep container sealed and airtight for storage.
  • #50211 - For can spraying only. Shake can well before use. Spray can upside down until nozzle clears for storage.
  • Test any section in a small area.
    • Prime over galvanized surfaces.
  • Apply uniform wet coat of 12-16 mills thick.
    • A second coat can be applied if needed.
    • Allow 12 hours between coats.
    • Allow 24 hours @ 70°f to cure before covering with any materials or applying heat from engine/exhaust systems.
    • High humidity and lower temps will increase drying time.
  • Do not force dry with heat.
  • Clean up with hot water and soap.

WARNING! - If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD DUST IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH - approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop. Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.

CAUTION! - Contains Zinc Oxide and less than 10% Ethylene Glycol. May cause eye, skin, nose, and throat irritation. USE ONLY WITH ADEQUATE VENTILATION. To avoid breathing vapor, spray mist, or sanding dust, open windows and doors or use other means to ensure fresh air during sanding, application, and drying. If you experience eye watering, headaches, or dizziness, increase fresh air, or wear respiratory protection (NIOSH/MSHA TC 23C or equivalent) or leave area. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Do not take internally.

FIRST AID - If you experience difficulty in breathing, leave the area to obtain fresh air. If continued difficulty is experienced, get medical assistance immediately. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention; for skin, wash thoroughly with soap and water. If swallowed, get medical attention immediately. Keep container closed when not in use. Do not store above 100°F. Keep from freezing. Material Safety Data Sheet available upon request.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN

Gently mix by hand using a paint mixing stick. Do not shake to mix. Aggressive mixing can damage the microspheres. A few minutes of stirring is all that’s needed. When applying ATAC, the use of a Wet Mil Gauge can be helpful to determine your coat thickness. These can be bought at most hardware or paint stores, or online.

Make sure the surface you are applying the ATAC coating to is prepped properly. Clean and dry, free from any contaminants. Take care of any rusted areas, do not apply over rust. You can treat the rust with a rust converter or remove it completely. Use a primer over any bare metal or rust treated areas - a red oxide primer works well. Always test the ATAC coating over any primer you are going to use. Let it dry for 48 hours and see if any lifting or reaction occurs. Lightly sand any glossy areas, prep just like you would when applying any automotive paint, making sure to clean thoroughly afterwards. The use of a shop vacuum and tack cloth is recommended. Not having a clean, dry surface will inhibit the ATAC from adhering properly.

ATAC coating is good for 18 months from the date of manufacture. This date is printed on the container. Once open, any remaining product, if kept airtight, can be used to the printed date on the pail. Keep cool and keep from freezing.

ATAC can be sprayed or brushed on. We recommend our spray gun, part number 50209. Apply in even coats, not to exceed a 12-16mil wet coat at one time. Tape off areas you do not want to have coated. Use painters' tape and paper, or newspaper. A second or third coat can be applied after 12 hours. Applying a thick coat at one time can cause the coating to crack. If spraying, use the lowest air pressure that still gives you good results. When applying ATAC, the use of a Wet Mil Gauge can be helpful to determine your coat thickness. These can be bought at most hardware or paint stores, or online.

Allow at least 24 hours to dry before putting anything over the ATAC coating.

ATAC is designed to be used on the interior of vehicles only. Do not apply to headers, engine parts, or exhaust components. Do not use in engine bays.

Use warm water to clean any brushes or spray equipment. Clean these before allowing the ATAC coating to dry. Tape off areas you do not want to have coated. Use painters' tape and paper, or newspaper.

Do not use in areas that will be submerged under water, like the bilge area of a boat. It can be used in Marine applications as long as it is not submerged.

Do not thin ATAC, use directly from the pail.

It is a good idea to test a small area before applying ATAC. Let this area sit for 48 hours to see if any reaction occurs.
