Race In Review: 2012 NHRA Spectacle of Speed

Race In Review: The 2012 NHRA Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway (Indianapolis, Indiana)

Our 2012 race season is off to a great start.  We are leaving Lucas Oil Raceway with our DEI / Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems dragster sitting in the Top Ten in NHRA Top Dragster points, and a combination that could likely win us a NHRA season championship in 2012.

Martino Motorsports’ video highlights from the NHRA Spectacle of Speed at Lucas Oil Raceway:

We qualified 12th (out of 37 dragsters in our class) for the event with a career best e.t. of 6.61 at 204 MPH on a mild two stage Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems tune-up.

With a rough looking three day weather forecast for the event, we surprisingly only encountered one day of bad weather which cancelled our final qualifying session on Saturday, and a very good opportunity to advance our qualifying position into the top ten for race day.

Race day started with rain early on, but cleared up mid-morning to be the nicest day of the event.  We battled through a very tough Top Dragster field throughout the day, and ended up getting down to eight cars late Sunday evening when our day ended with a loss.

The upgrades we made to the dragster over the off season definitely worked to our advantage.  Our new AFCO double adjustable shocks and Mickey Thompson wheels and tires helped straighten our dragster on the launch all the way through the finish line.  Our 60 foot and reaction times were as consistent as they have ever been, and the dragster didn’t budge an inch out of the grove going down the track.

Our 640 cubic inch engine combination perfected by Gellner Engineering along with the Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems tune-up provided by the fine staff at Design Engineering Inc. consistently produced big numbers in the 1/4 mile round after round, making it very easy to predict what e.t. our dragster would record at the finish line.

It’s going to be an interesting season.  Hopefully we can keep our momentum rolling into the next event and keep our chances for the 2012 NHRA Top Dragster title alive.
