Follow Martino Motorsports' 2012 Season

Martino Motorsports - NHRA Jeg's SuperQuick Event Wrap-upThe night before our trip to the NHRA Jeg’s SuperQuick Series event at Pacemaker’s Dragway, we took “our crew” to see The Crue (Motley Crue) + Poison, who brought their 2011 anniversary tour to our hometown for the evening.

It was great to take a break from all the hard work spent on the dragster over the past few weeks to enjoy the show.  Although the concert left our ears ringing until late next evening, it was well worth it.  Poison (celebrating 25 years together) and Motley Crue (celebrating 30 years together) didn’t let their age show.  Both acts had the sold-out crowd cheering on their feet the entire show...

Motley Crue closed the concert with “Kickstart My Heart”, one of the top ranked drag racing anthems of all time (also a great way to “kickstart” our road trip to Pacemaker’s Dragway immediately thereafter).

DEI BoomMat Floor and Tunnel Shield IIOver the past year with our new motorhome we have been battling high heat issues between the driver and passenger seats where the large Ford V-10 engine is located.  Although the motor is covered with a thick carpeted housing with “factory” insulation placed around the engine, said areas get very warm and uncomfortable during road-trips, which fans and air-conditioning can’t seem to keep cool.

This past Saturday we took said housing apart to install the DEI BoomMat Floor & Tunnel Shield II to help significantly reduce temperatures in the “cockpit” area of our motorhome.

Martino Motorsports - Columbus Wrap-UpThursday
Ryan made six passes in our DEI / Ny-Trex dragster to upgrade his NHRA + IHRA competition licenses to advanced e.t. status.  Special thanks to Chris Stilwell and the rest of the staff at National Trails Raceway for an excellent job of prepping the track for this test session.

Friday
We made our first qualifying pass for the event at 4:30 PM.  We faced probably the worst racing conditions we have ever encountered in over 40 years of racing.  Our Kestrel Weather Meter showed temperatures well over 100 degrees, a density altitude of 5000 ft, and over 150 water grains.  We were still able to get ahold of the track with the help of our Mickey Thompson Tires (www.mickeythompsontires.com) and run a 6.876 at 196.76 MPH to qualify us for the event...

Martino Motorsports - Norwalk Wrap-UpAfter battling rain (yet again) we were finally able to complete the NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Series Event at Summit Motorsports Park (Norwalk, OH) last weekend.  Although we fell short of an event win, we were able to rid our dragster of all its 2011 gremlins and lay down some strong numbers in the 1/4 mile with our small Ny-Trex Nitrous Oxide Systems tune-up.

Coming out of the event we are tied for the second best reaction time average in all of NHRA Top Dragster (special thanks to Nitro Joe’s Racing Stats for keeping us posted) and we are ready for a strong surge in the second half of the 2011 season with a combination that is going to be tough to beat.

We have spent countless hours getting to this point and we are finally ready to “take our talents to Norwalk, Ohio” for what we hope becomes a safe weekend full of great memories with our fellow NHRA competitors and family & friends who will be traveling multiple hours to cheer us on.

With the great support of our many associates and close friends in the racing industry, we are confident we have all the bugs worked out of our new 640 cubic inch engine combination and it’s time for some no hassle racing.
