Hot fuel reduces engine performance, stresses the fuel pump, and can lead to vapor lock. Using race fuel? Race fuel manufacturers recommend using reflective materials to help keep specialty fuels temperature stable. DEI has come up with an effective kit to help combat this problem. Simply line the underside of your fuel tank with the self-adhesive Reflect-A-Cool™ or Reflect-A-GOLD™ material and trim to shape. The DEI Reflect-A-Cool material is made up of a aluminized reflective foil backed with a base layer of glass fiber. Its rated to withstand continuous temperatures up to 400°F degrees and can reduce fuel temps by up to 30%. Installation is easy, the material can be cut with scissors and lays down well to cover irregular shapes. This kit can be used with all tanks including metal, plastic and fiberglass. For those running in extreme conditions or running air cooled engines, we recommend our up-spec Reflect-A-GOLD™ material. The heat rating doubles while the thickness and weight of the material remains the same.

Each kit includes:

  • 1 - 24”" x 24"” sheet of reflective material
  • 1 - 1.5" x 15 ft roll of reflective tape

Key Features:

  • Reflects Radiant Heat
  • Reduce Fuel Temperature
  • Lower Stress on Fuel Pump
  • Reflect-A-Cool™ withstands temperatures up to 400°F
  • Reflect-A-GOLD™ withstands temperatures up to 850°F
  • Includes reflective tape to help cover seems and irregular shapes

Motorcycle Under Tank Heat Reflection Kit

My practically new 2017 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R was suffering from boiling gasoline due to engine heat when ambient temperature reached approximately 90°F. This situation was dire enough that when the gas cap was opened a gush of gasoline vapors roared out of the tank and the sound of boiling gasoline was easily heard. A recent five hour ride in ambient temperatures of approximately 91°F seemed to indicate that the problem was satisfactorily mitigated. At the end of the ride the gas cap was opened and no vapors rushed out and there was no sound of boiling liquid inside the tank. This bikes gas tank is plastic and comes with OEM heat shields. The OEM heat shields were removed and the adhesive scraped off. The surface was prepared with an acetone cleaning. So far the Gold heat shield material appears to sticking to the tank surface with no issues. Unfortunately there was not enough material in this kit to apply to the entire underside of this 6.2 gallon tank so the top OEM heat shield was left in place but integrated into the new Gold heat shield material. The Gold Heat Tape roll that comes with the kit worked very well to straighten out complex cuts and fill in voids on the underside. Pretty satisfied with the results.
